How to recover from Depression.

There have been a few of my LJ friends who have been going through depression, something that usually intensifies during wintertime.  Here are a few videos that might help.  Also, I have written before that one great exercise that can help bring one out of depression/anxiety is this: Clean your room!  It clears the mind, moves the body, starts the ball of accomplishment and motivation going, and increases useful self-organisation and self-respect.

Anxiety: Stop negative thoughts.

To fix your brain, fix your gut.

Lifestyle changes.

What you can do.

Note: In depression, attributions regarding information related to self are overly negative. In bipolar personality disorder, this habit of cognitive-emotional mistake swings oppositely, so that information related to self becomes regarded as overly positive. Mania. It's basically the same cognitive problem of mistaking - overgeneralising or biasing - information. So, addressing this sort of habit, in my learned opinion, is crucial to reducing depression, bipolar and anxiety.

Microplastic pandemic.

Microplastics Cause Damage To Human Cells, Study Shows (theguardian.com)

Microplastics cause damage to human cells in the laboratory at the levels known to be eaten by people via their food, a study has found. From a report:

The harm included cell death and allergic reactions and the research is the first to show this happens at levels relevant to human exposure. However, the health impact to the human body is uncertain because it is not known how long microplastics remain in the body before being excreted. Microplastics pollution has contaminated the entire planet, from the summit of Mount Everest to the deepest oceans. People were already known to consume the tiny particles via food and water as well as breathing them in. The research analysed 17 previous studies which looked at the toxicological impacts of microplastics on human cell lines. The scientists compared the level of microplastics at which damage was caused to the cells with the levels consumed by people through contaminated drinking water, seafood and table salt. They found specific types of harm -- cell death, allergic response, and damage to cell walls -- were caused by the levels of microplastics that people ingest.

Fight inflammation via the gut.

Study Finds Fermented Foods May Alter Your Microbiome, Reduce Inflammation, and Improve Your Health (nytimes.com)

A new study finds that eating fermented foods like yogurt, kimchi, sauerkraut and kombucha increase the diverse of gut microbes — and "may also lead to lower levels of body-wide inflammation, which scientists increasingly link to a range of diseases tied to aging," reports the New York Times: The latest findings come from a study published in the journal Cell that was carried out by researchers at Stanford University. They wanted to see what impact fermented foods might have on the gut and immune system, and how it might compare to eating a relatively healthy diet full of fruits, vegetables, beans, whole grains and other fiber-rich foods... [Among the study's participants], the fermented food group showed marked reductions in 19 inflammatory compounds... For people in the fermented foods group, the reductions in inflammatory markers coincided with changes in their guts.

2020 study backs breast implant illness claims by patients

New study backs breast implant illness claims by patients

A new study in a leading plastic surgery journal offers more evidence to support the existence of breast implant illness, a malady reported by thousands of women but dismissed as scientifically unproven by many plastic surgeons and some health authorities.

The study focused on 750 women who complained of fatigue, memory loss, joint and muscle pain and other symptoms after having received breast implants. It found that as a group, the women experienced significant relief from their symptoms within 30 days of having their implants removed.

“The data speaks for itself,” said Dr. Lu-Jean Feng, a plastic surgeon and an author of the study. “It’s much more likely that the illness is due to breast implants if the improvements are within 30 days.”

Three Die After Untreatable 'Superbug' Fungus Infections in Two Different Cities

Three Die After Untreatable 'Superbug' Fungus Infections in Two Different Cities (go.com)

"U.S. health officials said Thursday they now have evidence of an untreatable fungus spreading in two hospitals and a nursing home," reports the Associated Press: The "superbug" outbreaks were reported in a Washington, D.C, nursing home and at two Dallas-area hospitals, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported. A handful of the patients had invasive fungal infections that were impervious to all three major classes of medications. "This is really the first time we've started seeing clustering of resistance" in which patients seemed to be getting the infections from each other, said the CDC's Dr. Meghan Lyman...

Note: I have CFS/M.E. I have told doctors that regular Candida yeast (Albicans) is able to get into the bloodstream, but they always pooh-poohed this. How could I know something that they did not?! They had heard that the book, "The Yeast Connection," had been maligned, and they equate yeast with a female gynecological problem, so they were not about to open their minds. But, once yeast gets into the blood, it not only provokes IL and cytokines, which are toxic to the brain, they also excrete toxins like alcohol and vinegar. (See Candidiasis). It is actually known that yeast do get into the blood and cause serious problems. (See Fungemia). So, why can't anyone come around to understanding that yeast also plays some part in CFS?!

When an even more toxic form of yeast - Candida Auris - becomes a superbug, that spells real trouble.

Death Rates Are Declining For Many Common Cancers In US

Death Rates Are Declining For Many Common Cancers In US (statnews.com)

Death rates are declining for more than half of the most common forms of cancer in the U.S., according to a sweeping annual analysis released Thursday. The new report -- released by the American Cancer Society, the National Cancer Institute, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and other collaborators -- found that between 2014 and 2018, death rates dropped for 11 out of 19 of the most common cancers among men and 14 of the 20 most prevalent cancers among women.

Accelerating declines in lung cancer deaths may account for much of the overall progress seen in recent years, the authors of the report said. Over the past two decades, the death rate for lung cancer has declined even faster than the rate at which patients are diagnosed with the disease. And while part of the early success in preventing lung cancer can be attributed to the massive drop in smoking rates, the authors note the most recent downward trends seem to correspond with the approval of new treatments for non-small cell lung cancer that improved the likelihood of survival. Death rates from melanoma also saw an accelerated decline in the past decade, despite a growing number of diagnoses. Like in lung cancer, authors point to the introduction of novel treatments around the same time as the turnaround on the death rate. New targeted and immune checkpoint inhibitors were approved by the Food and Drug Administration in 2011, one year before major declines in death rates were seen in women and two years before they were seen in men.

While the report showed improved survival rates for many patients over recent years, others, such as prostate, colorectal, or female breast cancers, have seen progress stalled or stopped. Breast cancer continues to be one of the three deadliest cancers for women of all races, and the most frequently fatal cancer for Hispanic women. While the rates of death from breast cancer are declining, the pace of the decline has slowed over the past two decades, according to the report. And across the board, racial health disparities persist. Black women and white women are diagnosed with breast cancer at similar rates, but the mortality rate for Black women is 40% higher. Overall, cancer is more common among white individuals than Black individuals, but Black people die from cancer at higher rates. [The report] emphasized the importance of preventive measures for certain cancers, noting that while cancers related to smoking have continued to decrease, those related to excess body weight have increased. Early and consistent access to screenings has also been critical, as demonstrated by the apparent effect of adapted screening guidelines for colorectal cancer.
